The Red Books: Recollections of the Battle of Okinawa by Marines of the Sixth Marine Division

In the 1990s, Kenneth J. Long (29th Mar-3-I) gathered written accounts of the Battle of Okinawa from Marines of the Sixth Marine Division who fought in that battle. Although the stories focus on Okinawa, many of the men also wrote about their time in the Marines before and after the battle. The books also contain photos, maps, and other information about Okinawa.

Lisa Benedetti scanned these volumes from original hard copies, which were, unfortunately, of poor quality. However, the stories themselves are topnotch. We thank Lisa for tracking down these books and making them accessible to all.
